Bee in my Bonnet Images 2021

I am so lucky to have found a group of artists that are passionate about creating symbolic art. We are doing a project called Bee in My Bonnet. Twice a month, we create an image based on a phrase, idiom, or quote. It has been so amazing to see how different we have all interpreted each them. I tried to use a technique somehow related to the theme as well as a symbolic representation of the underlying idea I connected to the theme. So many times, the metaphors were strengthened through the process, and the creating became even more meaningful than the finished product. Some of my favorite images for the year were created for this loop, and I’m excited to say that we are continuing through 2022 as well! We are hoping to also put together a collection to show all of our work in a book! It’s all very exciting. But for now, I thought I’d at least put my 2021 images together in one place, with the words that inspired them. It should be noted that more than half of them use Polaroid film, and the experimentation I used creating these shots renewed my love for instant film and prompted my Fast Film guide.

I have put the phrase or quote as the title of each of these photos, along with a description of the technique. To learn more about my process and the symbolism behind the shots, see #bimbocami on Instagram. (BIMBO is an acronym for Bee In My BOnnet. HA!) There are a few that have videos or gifs or additional images attached, so go check them out.
